Committees & Task Forces
Overview
Committees play an important role in DCAT’s volunteer-driven organization. They are vital to the association’s operation and provide continuity of thinking as well as bringing together a cross section of member knowledge and experience. DCAT’s standing committees are charged with identifying the needs of the members, managing initiatives consistent with the organization’s goals and objectives. Standing committees often have related task forces that are assigned shorter-term projects and assignments.
Applications for a Committee or Task Force can be completed year-round.
Primary Functions
Standing Committees are:
- Charged with identifying the needs of the members, managing initiatives, marketing, coordinating volunteers and other activities.
- Members of these committees undertake assignments on a longer-term basis, which enables them to bring continuity to their projects.
- Responsibilities include a time commitment to committee meetings and/or conference calls usually 8-10 times per year as well as emails and specific assignments.
- Committee members generally make a two-year commitment to a particular committee. After that they are encouraged to rotate off to another committee in order to provide the space for another to have the volunteer experience.
Task Forces are:
- Formed primarily to work on a highly focused task or provide a specific service to the organization within a specified period of time.
- Work is usually conducted by email and conference calls, with an optional opportunity to meet in person, if necessary.
- Members of task forces undertake assignments on a short-term basis.
- Their role is completed once the specific responsibilities delegated to them are achieved.
